Here’s What’s Missing From Your Marketing Efforts

Two main things are missing from your marketing efforts that’s keeping you stuck on the hamster wheel and getting no results.

Strategy and data.

Keep reading to find out how these two things can impact your marketing efforts for the better!

1. Strategy

Posting and having a content calendar is not the same as having a strategy. 

A marketing strategy is the long-term plan that supports your overall business vision

Tactics are the action steps you will take to execute the strategy. 

Strategy tells you WHAT and WHY. 

The strategy helps you figure out what you’re trying to accomplish and why you want to accomplish it. 

It takes into account your ideal client’s needs and your unique value proposition. 

A tactic is the HOW. 

What steps will you take to execute the strategy? 

When I support clients in creating marketing plans, we look at their long term business goals and vision to create a strategy that serves as the guide and foundation of what they should (and shouldn’t) be doing to reach their vision. 

From there we break down the strategy into tangible steps so they know exactly what they need to do and how to do it in order to reach their goal. 

Having a marketing strategy will also help you identify the content pillars you need to create in order to move your ideal client along the customer journey so you can actually attract, nurture, and convert your audience.

In addition to this, there are different things that go into your marketing strategy.

Do you have a visibility strategy? A lead generation strategy? What is your strategy for conversion?

A content calendar isn’t enough to get you the results you’re looking for when it comes to marketing your business.

2. Data

The second thing missing from your marketing strategy is DATA.

You’re not looking at the data or you’re focused on the wrong data to inform your next strategic decision.

When it comes to data you want to first decide: 

  • What is the purpose or objective with this piece of content, this ad, this collaboration, etc.?

From there you do the work/execute, and then you look at your numbers. But you’re not looking at likes, comments, and follows. Sometimes the best metric is website clicks or shares and saves. It could be time spent on your website or number of sales calls booked, or freebies that have been downloaded. 

You have to make sure you’re looking at the data and monitoring the right data when it comes to marketing.

You don’t need 100 likes if a piece of marketing material gets you 5 sales calls from qualified leads (and qualifying your leads is a whole other conversation). 


If your marketing efforts just aren’t converting the way you want them to, spend some time working on your STRATEGY and looking at your DATA.
